In the midst of the construction shaping downtown Cincinnati's future, the Carew Tower stands, the city's tallest building and a landmark to its past and present.
Since its completion 70 years ago, the building's function has remained the same: office space, shopping and hotel rooms. And throughout those decades, visitors to Cincinnati have stood on the 49th floor observation deck, enjoying one of the city's most spectacular views. On a clear day, visitors can see for several miles in all directions.
The 574-foot Carew Tower, in addition to supporting the observation deck affording a stunning view of the city, also contains the following:
1.383: million square feet of total floor area
9: miles of brass piping
15: railroad cars full of glass
37: miles of steel piping
40: railroad cars full of stone
41: elevators
60: miles of floor and window molding
60: railroad cars full of lumber
4,500: plumbing fixtures
5,000: doors
8,000: windows in the Carew Tower upon its completion in 1931
